

Rick Schmid, our Head Counselor will be making sure that everyone has Big League Fun in 2007. Rick has done it all at IL. He was a Bus Counselor, Athletic Director, Special Events Coordinator and Group Leader before becoming our Head Counselor. In total Rick has been with Ivy League for 28 years and loves every minute of it! Rick has been a teacher for 20 years and counting. He enjoys spending time with his family at the beach. Rick is also a coach for his children's recreational activities.
This is Audrey Gold's 21st year at Ivy League. Audrey spent 5 years as a counselor and 15 years as our Spirit & Special Events Coordinator . During the winter you will find Audrey in the office preparing for the summer, booking lots of terrific trips and fun entertainment. Big League Fun does not happen on its own. Audrey and her husband Mark have two children Brad and Amanda. Both have enjoyed many memorable years of Big League Fun at Ivy League.
This will be Lori Goldberg’s fifth year here at Ivy League as Mini Day Division Leader. Lori lives in Morganville with her husband Barry and three kids Jamie, Joshua and Matthew. During the school year Lori works as a preschool assistant for the 3-year-old class here at Ivy League Preschool.
Janis Ventre is returning this year to Ivy League as a Pre-School and Kindergarten Division Group Leader. After serving five years as a Pre-School Counselor, Janis will return for her 4th summer as Group Leader of the Pre-School Division. Janis has been teaching for 10 years and is currently teaching in Staten Island, NY. Janis and her husband Roy have 2 children, Scott and Melissa, who both attended Ivy League.
Monica
Tobio is returning this year to Ivy League as Lower Division Group Leader for
our first grade campers for her 4th summer. Monica served as a music and
movement teacher for 2 summers and will be back to enjoy another wonderful summer at Ivy
League. Monica has been teaching for 15 years and is currently teaching 3rd grade at Clark
Mills School in Manalapan N.J. Monica and her husband Joe have 2 children, Courtney and Matthew,
who both attend Ivy League. They are all very excited for camp to begin. In her spare time,
Monica enjoys good music, songwriting, and spending time with family and friends. She especially
loves the Ivy League friends that she’s made over the past couple of years.
Sharon
Katzanek is returning this year to Ivy League as Middle Division Group Leader .
Sharon will be back for her 16th summer of Ivy League Fun.
Sharon has been teaching for over 20 years and is currently teaching in Elizabeth, NJ. Sharon
and her husband Stu have 2 daughters, Kate and April, who both attended Ivy League. Sharon
loves to collect earrings. You will always be able to tell what is going on at camp by looking
at Sharon's Ears.
Lindsay
Singer is the Group Leader for the Grads. She
has been a part of every program here since she was born, making this her 23rd summer
at IL! Although she was a counselor for the Upper, Grads, and Post Grads divisions
in the past, this will be her third summer as a group leader. She loves coming to camp
everyday and looks forward to the exciting trips. During the school year Lindsay teaches
6th grade Science and Social Studies at Pine Brook. She spends her free time playing soccer
and going to Broadway!
Howie Gandelman will be back for his 6th summer of Big League Fun. Howie will head our CAP program and as well as the LIT program. Coming from New York with his family to the area, he brings 25 years of fortified experience. His experience ranges from being a superb counselor, outstanding counselor trainer, and a well-rounded supervisor, that includes directing a Sports Camp. In addition, Howie will not be the only one in his family enjoying the Big League Fun, his daughter Erynn and son Isaac will experience the enthusiasm as well.
Keith Fessel and Penny Kreinberg, run a tight ship in the Post-Grads Division. Keith is a high school teacher in Brooklyn. He has worked in the travel programs at Ivy League since the summer of 1983. They have 3 children - Ariel, Shane and Molly. Keith likes to read about history, listen to the music of the 60's and 70's, and he loves to swim. This will be Penny's 23rd summer at Ivy League.
Mindy Matza will back at Ivy League for her 12th year. For six years she has been teaching swimming at camp, but for the past 4 years she has Waterfront Director for the middle, upper and grad divisions . Our goal is to have children swimming to their best ability, while having fun doing it. Mindy has a daughter, Megan and a son, Brian who are 17 and 15, respectively. They love Ivy League Day Camp and have been coming here for the past nine years. Mindy loves working with children. She substitute teaches in Manalapan during the school year. She also likes tennis, roller blading, walking, reading and shopping. Mindy enjoys the summer even more, as I adore swimming. Every free moment she gets in the summer, you'll find her perfecting her strokes and swimming laps in the pool.
Valerie Rogers is returning to camp for her third summer this year. Her first two summers at Ivy League were spent teaching mini-day, pre-school and lower division campers to swim. This year she will be returning as the Waterfront Director for mini-day, pre-school and lower division. Valerie has been a Water Safety Instructor for over 20 years, and has worked for the American Red Cross as a Health & Safety Director for numerous years. She still volunteers for the Jersey Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross. She has been a teacher for the past 11 years, and is currently teaching 5th grade in Keyport as well as coaching Keyport’s Middle School Field Hockey team and running the Student Council. Valerie spends her free time playing softball and rugby. Her daughter Kristina will also be returning for her third year as a camper at Ivy League this summer. Kristina loves every minute she spends at camp, and asks throughout the winter when she can go back!
This is Jeff's 3rd summer at Ivy League. For the previous 2 summers he has been a Water Saftey Instructor and an Athletic Specialist. Jeff returns to us this year as the Group Leader for the Upper Division. Prior to working at Ivy League he was a Group Leader for 11 years at a local private day camp. Jeff presently is a special education teacher in Franklin Township where he has taught grades 4-12. He has been teaching there for the last 25 years.
In the evenings Jeff works with developmentally disabled adults, which he has been doing for the past 21 years. Jeff is married and has 2 daughters. The eldest has graduated from college and is presently employed. His youngest is presently attending University of Delaware where she is a sophomore. Jeff is an avid skier and exercise enthusiast. He also enjoys photography and reading. He is looking forward to his new position at Ivy League. He fully believes that a positive camp experience can have a helpful, long lasting and beneficial impact on all his campers.
